The part- owner of the Texas Rangers baseball club, Bush is currently working to shift the education burden from property taxes to sales and professional taxes.

Republican George E. Pataki succeeded Mario Cuomo, the longtime Democratic governor of New York, in 1995. He won election based on his promises to lower taxes, reinstate the death penalty and lower government spending. Pataki had previously been a state legislator for eight years.
