Butler is a noted gerontologist, psychiatrist, elderly-rights advocate and Pulitzer Prize winner for 'Why Survive?' The death of his grandfather/ guardian when he was a boy and respect for a family physician led him to his chosen field. He has been a leader in the fight against age discrimination.
