Ray Charles is known as a pioneer in soul music. He was born in Georgia and as a child, glaucoma caused his blindness. He began playing the piano at the age of three. Charles originally performed slow romantic music but later on developed his own style. Although he endured poverty during his early career, he is now a legend in the industry.

Franklin, Aretha

Aretha Franklin has been a personality in contemporary pop or soul music since the 1960s. Her voice, with a five-octave range, was declared one of Michigan's natural resources. Established as the Queen of Pop, she has received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award.
