Eliot Spitzer, New York State's 63rd attorney general, born in New York on June 10, 1959 has distinguished himself as one of the most activist attorneys general in the country, earning a reputation as a 'giant slayer' and a 'people's lawyer'. During his term in 1999 he filed unprecedented lawsuits against 17 energy companies for unacceptable amounts of pollutants, leading to smog and acid rain and worsening the quality of New York's air.
