Jackie McLean

Article Abstract:

Jazz musician and educator Jackie McLean was one of the leading alto saxophonists of his time, his work representing a transition from the rhythmically intense hard bop of the 1950s to the free jazz of the 1960s. One of McLean's great achievements as an educator was the creation of a degree program in jazz studies at the University of Hartford, where he founded the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz.
