Chatoyant beryl shows a distinct play of light and a prominent glow, and understanding its structure and orientation of the chatoyancy are essential during cutting. Cobbing, cabbing, stone carving, woodworking and design in stone are the key skills needed when cutting chatoyant beryls. Step-by-step instructions and photos in cutting this type of gem are given as well.

Article Abstract:

Santa Clara del Cobre in Mexico is known for top quality copper jewelry, bowls, pots and other objects due to the fact that their products do not oxidize and turn green. The process of heating the copper and hammering it prevents the material from having a green patina. The growth of the copper industry in Santa Clara del Cobre is also discussed.
