A light-plane-category radio control model rudder needs no more than 18 degrees of control motion. Modelers who cut the arms short on 0.5A size control horns to look better on a small plane actually increase the angular motion, causing squirrely flight.

The small can take a fall

Larger aircraft are more aerodynamically efficient than small craft. Small craft are often able to survive crashes better. Electronics manufacturers are coming out with two new miniaturized digital proportional radio controlled systems this year.

Tail heaviness is extremely undesirable in small radio-control airplanes and must be compensated for, by counterbalancing, if it has been designed in. Techniques for combatting tail heaviness included designing planes with short tail sections.
