Curacao's first stamp issued in 1873

Article Abstract:

Curacao is the biggest of the islands in the Netherlands Antilles. It got a measure of home rule in 1951, but the lieut-governor is still appointed by Holland. Its first postage stamp depicts the then-King William III. A wide variety of stamps that note events of importance, are briefly described.

Dag Hammarskjold was U.N. secretary general

Article Abstract:

The Swedish diplomat Dag Hammarskjold born Jul 29, 1905, died Sep 16, 1961 while in a plane on route to Katanga and peace talks on the Congo. His UN career is recounted including his posthumous award of the 1961 Nobel Peace Prize. Stamps honoring him, including a 1995 Ghanaian issue, are listed.

French Guiana: France's important overseas department

Article Abstract:

The demography, history and economic conditions of this Caribbean land is presented. In a 1946 plebiscite, the people voted to become a French department. France has built a space launching station there. This Guiana launching station is honored on a French stamp.
