Early postage meter impressions from Canada

Article Abstract:

Regulations for postage meters in Canada required date stamps, amount of postage and the phrase 'Canada Postage.' The regulations were developed in 1923, when Canada created its postage meter system. Machines made by Pitney-Bowes and Universal Postal Frankers are the only ones availabe.

The historical legacy of Wells, Fargo

Article Abstract:

A history of Wells Fargo and its delivery services is presented. A water-stained envelope and letter from 1865 was discovered and from the notes and marks on the cover, interesting information on delivery service was gleaned. Lost in a creek, it was delivered to NY six months later.

Forerunners of the Mailomat meter machines

The fist device for metering mail was invented in 1900 by a Norwegian, H. Kahrs. In 1902, Ernest Moss developed a machine used in New Zealand. The metering machines were not used in the US until 1920. The history of metered mail, and information about rare covers, is provided
