Minolta is the first maker to introduce an line of cameras that use the new advanced photo system technology. The line resembles Minolta's SLR range, but allows information to be encoded on the film. The 5 new models include the compact Vectis UC, the mid-range Vectis 20 and the high-end Vectis 40.

A Russian-made camera has gained a small following among photographers around the world despite its awkward controls. The Lomo camera has also inspired a group of people to stage an exhibition featuring photographs of scenes in Moscow.
