Article Abstract:

The existence of the African tsavolite has improved the market value of grossular garnets. The vanadium gem occurs as nodular embedded crystals and fetching higher prices. African garnets have a wide range of color. The malaya garnet, a light to pinky stone, is considered the most attractive.

Manganotantalite crystals are seldom used as gemstones because they are almost always black and rather dull. However, a crystal found in Minas Gerais, Brazil, showed rare gemstone quality and luster.

Grossular is an uncommon variety of garnet which has a color range of green to orange to brown. The various types of grossular are discussed as well as sites from which they may be found.
