Interactive home theatre

Article Abstract:

Companies are developing components that link a consumer's stereo system, television set and multimedia computer into an interactive home theatre system. The computer system must feature a CD-ROM drive, 28.8-Kbps modem and a sound card while the 27-inch or larger television set must accept multiple video inputs. After positioning the PC next to the TV, Sejin America's wireless keyboard and Logitech's wireless mouse will provide PC connectivity. A scan converter, such as UMax's MaxMedia TV/Pro, translates PC video output into a format the TV can recognize. Unfortunately, picture resolution will suffer during this process. The home theatre system is audio-enabled after connecting the sound card to the stereo system. Surround sound is a good feature to add to the system but is optional in the event price becomes a consideration.

Man to man

Article Abstract:

Men's rights organisations in the UK such as Families Need Fathers and the Cheltenham Group have been small and ineffective. However, efforts are now being made to coordinate their activities to create a strong national organisation. The organisers are keen to create a positive sense of community among men and to gain recognition for the existence of inequalities for men. Issues of concern include high-profile media coverage of feminist matters and the secrecy of English family courts.

Are there laws in the social sciences?

Article Abstract:

Philosophers Donald Davidson and John Searle argue that scientific methods are not applicable in social science research. According to them the rules that govern the natural and physical sciences do not apply to the social sciences. Unlike in other sciences wherein entities can be controlled easily, human behavior, as the main focus of the social sciences, is complex, unpredictable and difficult to control.
