A sailor recounts the time when the motorboat they were using ran aground in the Intracoastal Waterway somewhere in northern Florida. Sailors heading north should remember that the red-right-return rule starts at Norfolk, VA and goes all the way to the Key West, which goes against their natural instincts.

Bump in the night

Article Abstract:

A boater describes docking a 36 foot Grand Banks in a tight fitting slip. The fenders and the lines had to be adjusted several times in the course of a stormy night. Having the loop end of the line over the piling on the dock is the best arrangement.
