The use of computer-aided design (CAD) software may prove helpful in some levels of jewelry design and manufacture, but jewelers should not completely rely on it, since the system may revolutionize the industry. Totally depending on the system may mean ignoring a jeweler's talent and effort.

Alabaster sublime, alabaster bizarre

Susan Zalkind and Paul Hawkins are into the art of carving objects out of alabaster. One of their most popular and difficult pieces is an alabaster rose which took hundreds of hours to create. They describe their work as functional sculpture.
