Scrutiny of booklet pane reveals a true 'fake.' (postage stamp fraud)(Lonestar's Postal History)(Column)

Article Abstract:

Suspicion was aroused because of the narrowness of a pane of stamps on an airmail cancelled cover sent in 1929. Closer inspection by an experienced stamp dealer revealed that it was a tampered pane, the edges being cut with a razor blade. The step-by-step investigation of the fake is presented.

Chicago postage stamp show salutes U.N. anniversary

Article Abstract:

The 50th anniversary of the UN will be commemorated by the American Stamp Dealers Association at its Chicago Postage Stamp Show Feb 3-5, 1995. A US postage stamp will honor the UN and its Mar 1995 summit to be held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Highlights of the upcoming convention are described.

Permanent headquarters built in New York; secretariat moved from Lake Success

Article Abstract:

The decision to build a UN headquarters in New York, NY, came on Dec 14, 1946, and the building was completed late in 1950. Letters to the UN cancelled at this time and promotional postage stamps commemorate this historic event. The UN established its own post office on Jan 3, 1951.
