Soar Utah: slope flying at its best

Article Abstract:

Soar Utah '98 was an informal slope-flying event that was attended by 45 pilots and about 200 sailplanes from 12 states. The Inter Mountain Silent Flyers planned, promoted and presented the affair which was held held atop three slope sites including the Point of the Mountain and Francis Peak.

Flying model aircraft in winter can be a rewarding experience for hobbyists who know how to gear up. Winter gear should include balaclava, goggles, and thin leather gloves along the regular layered clothes for winter comfort.

Model airplane pilots like to fly from big hills, but there are not many to be found locally. The benefits of using smaller slopes for flying are presented and the specific techniques for this type of flying are described.
