The stamp scene has changed over the years

Article Abstract:

Philately is popular although much about it has changed. Today, stamps that are easily gotten are marketed to collectors. Rarer stamps are auctioned some for huge prices. Want lists are not published, but collectors find interest in other buys such as albums, accessories, mixtures and catalogs.
