The North Americans break new ground down under

Chip Hyde became the first American to win the F3A aerobatics title since 1967. Canadian and US teams placed 1-2 in aerobatics, and the US swept the Pylon event. This is a detailed report of what was called the best world championships ever, in Wangaratta, Australia.

Hans Buhr's giant-scale, electric-powered jet airliner

Article Abstract:

German modeler Han Buhr has developed a new model of the British Aerospace's 146-200 airliner. The model has a 90.5-inch wingspan and 180 ounces in flight weight. It is powered by four Mabuchi RS-540 VZ motors and equipped with by a four 5.5-inch impeller system.

Do you really know balsa? A visit to the source of this remarkable wood

Article Abstract:

Most of the high-quality balsa used in modeling comes from Ecuador, but some is grown in Costa Rica. Costa Rican balsa is grown on plantations and processed at the Balsatica plant. A visit to the plant is described.
