The Terminator: Future Shock

Article Abstract:

Bethesda Softworks' $49.95 The Terminator: Future Shock is the third and best in a series of 3D action games based on the popular movie and is the first to meet the expectations generated by the film. Game play is exhilarating, and users must carefully plan a strategy to complete the mission, which involves escaping from a death camp, and locating the headquarters of the human rebels fighting against war machines controlled by a sentient computer, SkyNet. Enemies include the two-legged Walkers, lightly armed Scouts and Hunter/Killer fighters as well as the Terminator robot and human-looking T600 variant. Future Shock's graphics are not extraordinary but succeed in capturing the look and feel of the movies' futuristic scenes. The program is based on a brand-new graphics engine that provides a superior 3D experience but still has a few bugs; enemies sometimes walk or shoot through walls and floors, and a jump can end in midair.

Anvil of Dawn

Article Abstract:

New World Computing's $59.99 Anvil of Dawn role playing game finds the rare balance between challenge for hard-core gamers and ease-of-use for casual gamers. Users choose from one of five characters in an epic journey of exploration and battling. While characters move only one step at a time rather than in free-scrolling mode, the combat action occurs in real-time, which limits planning time for strategies. The unique enemy creatures are cleverly challenging. One of the game's major flaws is its lack of a sleep or rest time during which health and spell points can recover. Rather, the user has to wait while they are recovered. The game does have an enjoyable and easy-to-use interface, a top-notch auto-mapping utility and good note keeping ability.
