The guru of granulation

Article Abstract:

The technique of granulation in jewelry making was a lost art, but Jean Stark has used it since the early 1970s and has truly made it an art. Her technique and the way in which she both learned and taught it are described. The process is time-consuming, but the results can be beautiful.

The ancient invisible jewelry setting technique produces a seamless effect of continuous gemstone. The method relies on the close collaboration between the lapidary and metalsmith. Pieces that were done using this technique are presented.
