Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom

Article Abstract:

Origin Systems' $55 Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom spaceship action game includes intense graphics, entertaining action and several movie stars including Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell and Jason Bernard. In the game, users play a starship colonel who must fly into deep space to determine if Border World terrorists are instigating a civil war. The game includes 3-D graphics, real background props and interactive characters. During the game, users fly spaceships through different sectors of space destroying enemy spacecraft. During the 30 missions, users are accompanied by wingmen who assist in battle scenes. Wing Commander IV includes a heads-up display cockpit and has faster opponents with enhanced artificial intelligence. The game has six skill levels which range from Rookie to Nightmare. Wing Commander IV is an excellent game, but requires a powerful computer and mastering a substantial amount of keyboard commands.

Congo: Descent into Zinj

Article Abstract:

Viacom NewMedia's $54.95 Congo: Descent into Zinj is much better than the movie it is based on, which is not necessarily saying much. It is, nevertheless, a fairly good adventure game in its own right. The graphics are excellent, and the sound is good. Most of the plot is taken directly from the film, with the player's mission to proceed to the site of the last transmission from a mine producing rare diamonds. The game has a first-person perspective, and the 3D jungle is lushly rendered. It offers good acting as well as a slick design, and the puzzles are reasonably challenging. Congo is not flawless; it can be boringly derivative at times, but it is better than both the movie and the Michael Crichton novel upon which the movie was based.
