Enid Haupt, called the greatest benefactor of modern horticulture developed her inspiration for love of plants and nature from generous support of gardens and horticultural institutions. Her first garden donation was the Glass Garden at the New York University Medical Center, which was constructed to provide patients and their families with an oasis where they could get away from the sterile environment of the hospital.
