A guide to grafting: four simple ways to join two plants

Grafting is not limited to professional gardeners. The best way to learn is to work on deciduous woody plants. Two pieces are joined: the stock and the scion. Sometimes grafting can improved the appearance of a plant. Kinds of grafting possibilities are examined.

American persimmon

Article Abstract:

The American persimmon can be grown in zones five through nine and bears orange and yellow fruits no bigger than cherry tomatoes. Its spread is approximately two-thirds of its height. The initial growth cycle requires careful maintenance and pruning.

The elegant espalier: formal and fruitful ways of training trees and shrubs

Article Abstract:

Espaliers usually are fruit trees trained to grow along bare walls. There have been experiments as to which is the best form for the espalier. The fan is one such design. Tips are given on now to train fruit trees into the various espalier forms.
