A lost world

Article Abstract:

Allison, a botanist for the Georgia Natural Heritage Program of the Dept of Natural Resources, discovered the greatest concentration of rare plant species in any county in the Southeast, in the Bibb County Glades, AL, while he was on vacation in summer 1992. He found eight previously undiscovered plants and seven other species never before reported in Alabama.

The Apalachicola National Forest in Florida is home to the largest population of woodpeckers, made up of about 500 clans, in the US. To protect the woodpeckers, the forest service only permits selective harvesting of trees.

Memorial Day rites are held annually at the Poplar Flat Cemetery in Nelson County, KY. The cemetery, which is a burial site of the old families of Nelson County, has recently been expanded by one acre.
