A place in history: Scott Kunst wants you to see your garden as a chapter in time

Article Abstract:

Landscape historian and garden enthusiast Scott Kunst encourages people to revive historic plants and landscapes in their yards. Clues to a home's original landscape can be found in the modern yard or through old photographs or maps. Researching a gardens' history can also be as enjoyable as re-creating that garden. Kunst and his wife Jane also own and operate a historic-bulb catalog called Old House Gardens.

Garden features

Article Abstract:

Features of home gardens can be natural, constructed or both. Natural features include rocks, streams and wetlands, while constructed involves ornamentation such as stone or brick pathways, gazebos or pink flamengos. Features can be added or removed to redirect a viewer's attention or to heighten interest. Blooming plants can provide seasonal changes.

The Carolina Children's Garden

Article Abstract:

The educational facilities and community purpose of the Carolina Children's Garden in Columbia, South Carolina are described. There are nine themed gardens within the demonstration, each intended to reflect and inspire diverse gardening techniques.
