Sedges are the invisible ornamental grasses whose subtle beauty is generally overshadowed by showy miscanthus and stately molinias. The various uses of sedges, to add variety and elegance to the garden are mentioned.

A gardener describes growing 16 different types of basil for a taste test. She found that the larger-leafed varieties were the best for making pesto, while the basils with smaller leaves were the most decorative.
