Adopting new technology: the case of electrical plugs and receptacles

Article Abstract:

The importance of end-user acceptance of product innovations is illustrated through a case study of consumer preferences for electrical plugs and receptacles. Consumer attitudes toward three alternative plug and receptacle designs considered for use by the Smart House LP are assessed in three different environmental contexts. The degree to which end-users are knowledgeable of and identify with the product innovation is a deciding factor. Safety is also an important consideration.

Dermatological and other health problems attributed by consumers to contact with laundry products

Article Abstract:

A research study was conducted, through mailed questionnaires and telephonic interviews, to assess consumers' perception of dermatological problems related to the use of laundry products such as detergents and fabric softeners. More than 20 percent of the respondents attributed skin allergies or irritation to the use of specific laundry products. The general coping strategy of these consumers was the discontinuation of the allergy-causing product.
