Scalamandre, founded in the 1920s, has earned a reputation for its willingness to design custom fabrics for a clients such as William Randolph Hearst and Jacqueline Kennedy. The company gives the same painstaking attention to its wallpaper and trimmings as to its upholstery and fabrics. The manufacturing process for various Scalamandre offerings is described.

Small town values: the heart of a village

Article Abstract:

Old Chatham numbers slightly more than 100 souls knit by the hamlet's history and rural spirit. The construction of a nearby freeway in the mid-1950s cost Old Chatham its village church and schoolhouse, threatening the community's identity. Long-time resident Roger Machado is credited with a tireless and infectious spirit that helped keep things together.

The house collector: Don Carpentier is a man in love: his passion, a search-and-rescue mission for old American houses; his treasure, an antique village all his own

Article Abstract:

Don Carpentier has assembled a village of New York State buildings constructed between 1787 and 1840 on his land near East Nassau, NY. He has meticulously restored 23 buildings, including a schoolhouse, a smithy and a general store, to produce a village called Eastfield.
