Better blueberries: extra-hardy introductions that are short of stature and large of fruit

Article Abstract:

The University of Minnesota has, since the early 20th century, researched and developed ways to cultivate the highbush blueberry to help it survive cold climates. Various cultivars, developed during the 1980s, are smaller and produce less fruit but they can withstand minus 40 degree temperatures.

Testing the limits of the southern magnolia: some cultivars of this beloved tree are proving remarkably cold hardy

Article Abstract:

This magnolia can grow as high as 90 ft. It is a wild specimen found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Research on low survival temperatures of magnolia cultivars has shown the ability of some stems and buds to survive at minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit.
