Home improvement retailers can increase their presence in the profitable lawn and garden market by offering new products and services to better meet customers' needs. Flower gardening, landscaping, vegetable gardening, and lawn care products help home centers boost their sales volume. Home center stores carry exotic plants for indoor gardening, hand-powered reel mowers, and use interactive lawn and garden kiosks to offer customers useful tips on regional gardening and plant care.

Hardware and home center stores, which usually sold flashlights as a customer convenience, are rushing to display and market the new lines of professional-grade lighting flashlights that were originally designed for electricians, construction work and other industrial purposes. The flashlights have been designed for brightness and longevity. Some contain battery packs used in power tools, others have task specific lighting or flexibility features.

Housewares: infomercials make the sale

Article Abstract:

Infomercial advertising can stimulate building supply stores' sales of housewares. Some 9% of the over $800 million spent on infomercials in 1995 was dedicated to housewares, according to the National Infomercial Marketers Assn. Infomercials pre-sell products, according to Pergament Home Centers Inc housewares buyer Jerry Schutz. The chain uses infomercial segments, which it runs in-store, as product demonstrations.
