Article Abstract:

Three readers who have been composting for at least a year describe their techniques. A south Texas family steals full leaf bags from neighbors, pokes holes in them for moistening, and stacks the bags on top of the compost heap to keep it damp during the long hot summers.

Don't let cold weather cool your compost!

Article Abstract:

Compost is only active when warm, but cold weather does not mean that composting must stop. A compost bin constructed of straw bales with a plywood top will retain heat while keeping compost moist.
