A man describes collecting maple syrup in Maine. There are at four grades of maple syrup. Recipes offered include whole wheat-maple-almond pancakes with maple-nut syrup, maple butter, roasted acorn squash with parsnips, maple granola, cranberry-maple-orange ginger sauce, and roasted maple carrots.

Fresh ingredients, vinegar, and stainless steel, glass or ceramic utensils can ensure successful pickles. Recipes are given for chili and dill pickles, carrots and ginger, pickled red onions, sweet bread and butter pickles, speedy dilly beans, three pickled peppers, and quick zucchini pickles.

Finding time to cook

Article Abstract:

Making meals ahead and combining them with fresh ingredients is a time-saving way to cook. Cooking ahead extends the season of fresh vegetables and herbs by freezing dishes for eating later. Also, the flavor of certain dishes, such as soups and stews, improves over time.
