Fighting for phytotherapy

Article Abstract:

Traditional herbal medicine offers many benefits and is held in generally high esteem outside the US. The World Health Organization advocates the use of recognized plant medicines, called phytotherapy, for a variety of ailments that Western medicine treats poorly. This includes both preventative treatment and management of chronic illnesses. In the US the Food and Drug Administration requires expensive tests before permitting any drug to be sold as such, and drug makers will not pay for them if simply anyone can grow the plant in question.
