Folk predictions

Article Abstract:

Weather forecasting has been around prior to the written word, past down in folklore and advanced through meteorological technology. The lunar cycles of the moon and their affect on the circulation of plant fluids has been incorporated into Chinese planting practices since 200 B.C. The Old Famer's Almanac utilizes a formula more than 150 years old to forecast weather at an 80% accuracy rate. Phenology, which studies the relationships between plants, animals and weather, has been used in modern times to predict weather-related change and climatic conditions such as global warming.

Fall planting

Article Abstract:

The fall season is a great time for planting trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennials. Northern gardeners have had difficulty with the practice of fall planting because of the natural inclination to limit planting to the spring and summer seasons. Among the benefits of fall planting are the warm soil and cooler temperatures.

Oikos Tree Crops in Kalamazoo, Michigan, consists of 13 acres of which some are dedicated to plant cultivation while others are used as seed orchards.
