The creations of Gordon Smith, a self-taught, independent studio glass paperweight artist, are made of the purest optical crystal, purchased in 'glob' form. He rarely works from a sketch and states that he has the ability to visualize the finished design in his mind's eye and can go directly to his torch to begin fabricating the many intricate pieces that would eventually be incased within the sparkling clear crystal.

Debbie Tarsitano who is the preeminent female paperweight artist working in America is also a recognized revolutionary in the glass as art movement because of her provocative and innovative encased flamework glass sculptures.
