Marjorie O'Brien moved to Pennsylvania after World War II when her husband, a lawyer, was recruited by the steel industry. A barn on their estate in Lehigh Valley was damaged by a storm in 1965. The romantic appearance of the barn's ruins prompted her to use it for a garden. She discusses the origins of her idea and how she designed the garden.
