'Honey, I shrunk the apple tree!' New 'dwarfing' rootstocks make it possible to grow apples almost anywhere

Article Abstract:

Dwarf and super dwarf apple trees have been developed that are ideal for gardeners with limited space. Six popular varieties including Hudson Golden Gem, Prima, and Keepsake are described. Nine varieties are described as to size, hardiness, disease resistance, and productivity. Sources are provided.

Easy growin' grapes!

Success with grapes involves finding a disease resistant variety that is right for the climate where it will grow. In the Northeastern and Midwestern states, the best choices include Bluebell and Edelweiss. In the Southwest and California, the best choices are Swenson Red and Einset.

There must be ... three ways to train your grapevine

Article Abstract:

Techniques for pruning and training grapevines with trellis wires include the four-cane Kniffen method, the fan system and the candelabra. The different methods retain a different number of vines to retain and shape. All four techniques are described.
