Hurricane-area retailers help residents

Article Abstract:

Home center stores and hardware manufacturers in North Carolina and South Carolina volunteered merchandise and services to help customer-victims of Hurricane Fran, Sep 6-7, 1996, repair damaged homes and buildings and clean up damaged areas. Contributions ranged from donation of 130,000 reinforced trash bags valued at $75,000, to providing free chain-saw repairs and services.Stores provided extra supplies of much-needed generators, shingles and plywood and maintained low-level prices despite increased customer demand.

Emissions, safety standards the focus at Expo 96

Products and equipment that will enhance safety and emissions standards took center at the International Lawn, Garden & Power Equipment Expo held in Louisville, KY in Jul 1996. Swedish power equipment and accessories manufacturer, Husqvarna, unveiled its E-tech engine that reportedly reduces harmful emissions 60 % more than California Air Resources Board standards. Companies such as Honda and Kohler also introduced new engines that provide and maintain cleaner burning.

Anaheim trade show opens to mixed reviews

Article Abstract:

The estimated 3,000 people who attended the first annual Hardware, Housewares and Home Improvement Trade Show in Anaheim, CA were divided in their opinions of the show. While some griped that the show was too small and did not offer much hardware, others were impressed with the contact they established. Show manager Diane Waltersdorf said the show tried to reflect the variety of products found in hardware stores and home centers.
