Servistar Corp's senior buyer of hand and power tools Ken Lay expresses his opinions on the hand tool market, and innovations in hand tools, electronic tools, tape measures, and pro-grade tools. The hand tool business diminished due to power tool promotions between 1990-1995. Servistar sells more pro-grade tools to contractors who like them due their superior performance. Hand tool manufacturers improved packaging design to make the product more accessible to customers.

Servistar dealers mix education, buying at market

Coast to Coast and Servistar hardware dealers held their spring market at Baltimore Convention Center, Baltimore, MD, between May 3-7, 1996. Informative seminars provided about 1,800 dealers with useful tips on different aspects of the hardware business such as benchmarking, inventory control, and cash flow. Dealers' concerns focused on expanding their customer base, training and hiring quality employees, and merging Coast to Coast and Servistar operations.

Payless' top execs resign

Article Abstract:

Payless Cashways CEO David Stanley and Pres Susan Stanton have resign from the company after 15 years at the helm. The resignations come in the wake of Payless' emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company's financial woes were precipitated by increased competition and the failure of marketing strategies instituted by Stanley and Stanton.
