New NAHB green building guidelines

Article Abstract:

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) released new voluntary guidelines that will help conventional home builders to incorporate environmental practices into home building. The guidelines offer solutions for all aspects of home building, including lot design and preparation, indoor environmental quality, resource energy, water efficiency, maintenance and homeowner operation, global impact, site planning and land development.

Big, affordable, and green

Article Abstract:

The first affordable urban housing development to receive a New Construction Whole Building Award for its energy design is the 1400 on Fifth, a condominium building located in Harlem, New York. The building uses 35% less energy than permitted by the New York State Energy Code, and 70% less energy than similar buildings in New York City.

New initiative funds green, affordable homes

Article Abstract:

Green Communities, a partnership between the Enterprise Foundation and the Natural Resources Defense Council, are likely to broaden the ongoing efforts of developers, states and cities in building more affordable green homes. The goal is to change the way Americans think, design, and build affordable homes.
