Nutrient recycling: keeping your soil fertile is a no-loss proposition

Article Abstract:

Keeping the nutrient base enriched in soil is the key to successful vegetable and plant gardening. Although there are 16 chemical elements critical to growth, commercially produced chemical fertilizers usually contain potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen. Why natural organic matter is better is examined.

Vegetable diversity is near impossible for the home gardner to maintain. Seed storage is difficult, cross-pollination is hard to avoid, and hybrid varieties are often sterile. Buying unusual seeds each year is the best way to celebrate diversity.
