Alison Hargreaves was a celebrated alpinist who had scaled Mt. Everest and died after reaching the summit of K2. Many women have become climbers. When a pioneering woman or mother dies while engaging in a risky activity the public becomes more concerned than they would be over the death of a man.

A horse-drawn wagon is at the center of photo of school children next to their 'school bus.' Children would board the wagon and sit on benches that were on either side of the wagon. Unlike today's buses, there was no door-to-door transportation.
