Photo guide to plant diseases: identify what's plaguing your plants and stop disease dead in its tracks

Article Abstract:

The guide contains photographs of 20 plant with diseases. Most are caused by fungi. For each disease the symptoms, cause, and remedy is given. Some of the diseases are: damping off, powdery mildew, bacterial blight, verticillium wilt, brown rot, apple scab, leaf curl, black spot and others.

Some of the genetically engineered produce in the market, such as Calgene's Flavr Savr tomatoes, are not popular. Yet, companies such as Monsanto, Ciba-Geigy and DuPont continue to market them. Negative effects may include new allergens introduced into food. Labeling is not yet mandatory

Botanist Joseph Colosi is using a $45,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to try to learn to control the strange plant that is taking over cornfields throughout the US and devouring the crops.
