Plunge routers: in today's super-size world, these midsize routers make a strong case for being average

Article Abstract:

Six routers were evaluated for their design and performance. The $199 DeWalt DW621 was selected as the best overall of the six for its plunging action, depth adjustment system and ease of use. The $205 Porter Cable 7529 is recommended too. The $84 Skil 1840 cost about $100 less than the other models evaluated, but it has poor overall quality.

Nine router tables are evaluated for their ease of use and features. The $269 Veritas Router Table System received the highest recommendation because of its tilting top, insert rings, fence system and router clamp. The $199 Bench Dog Pro Top Portable RT100 also received an excellent recommendation.
