Quieter kitchens: tips for lowering the boom on noise

The kitchen can be the noisiest room in the house, and the noise can spill over into other rooms. Steps to make the kitchen a quieter place include the use of solid-core doors, noise-absorbing acoustical material added to the walls, floor and ceiling and the use of quiet appliances.

Attics may provide additional space for an office, den or bedroom, but a number of factors must be considered. For example, building codes in most areas will require a seven and one-half foot ceiling height in at least half of the space, as well as an emergency exit window.

The case of the disappearing bed

Article Abstract:

The problem of how to fit a bed into a small room that must serve as guest room, music room and home office was solved by designer Gary Johnson. Johnson used a Murphy Bed that folded behind a paneled wall. Bed installation details are discussed.
