Russian bears and nesting dolls

Article Abstract:

Russian toy manufacturers make a great many bears and dolls, but only for the tourist and export markets. Matreshka or nested dolls are still popular, and novelty versions feature political and cartoon figures. Humorous bears made of wood are a Russian favorite.

Mini bears

Article Abstract:

Tiny teddy bears, under six inches tall, are portable and intimate and they also are more expensive to make than larger bears. Bear makers are responding to demand and beginning to make more miniatures. Tips for collecting tiny bears are given.

New art bears

Article Abstract:

Skilled doll artists first turned their attention to the teddy bear in the 1970's. Beverly Port, Joyce Stafford, and others combine their dollmaking expertise with sculpture training to make bears designed for adult art collectors.
