Seattle supports ex-builder's two all-green stores

Article Abstract:

Environmental Home Center owner Brian Freeman-Gleason says he opened his two-unit operation because he was tired of building homes with toxic materials. His niche retail operation is more difficult to run because green materials, or those that are non-toxic, are more difficult to locate and more expensive. Shipping costs are often higher because many of the items require special handling. However, Freeman-Gleason likes being at the cutting edge of the market.

Table-top fountains bring nature indoors

Article Abstract:

Home improvement retailers are offering table-top fountains to customers shopping for a garden gift, and water gardeners. Table-top fountains are electrically operated and have pumps that recirculate their water. Most table-top fountains circulate 60 gal of water per hour and consumers enjoy the sound of the moving water. The table-top fountain design permits seasonal elements such as Santa Clause, poinsettias, and holly berries to be added to the unit.
