Shock value

Article Abstract:

Electricity reaches ground safely through appliance wirings, but when it reaches through some other medium the result is called a ground fault, which is a particular risk in wet areas. Ground faults can be fatal, unless protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI), which is a three-prong receptacle, circuit breaker that detects anomalous current fluctuations preceding a ground fault.

A wobbly newel post, which anchors the banister at the base of the stairs and helps define the character of a home's interior, can be fixed with the help of a drill, a few bits and some well-placed screws. The step-by-step method to restore the newel post's rigidity is illustrated.
