Natchitoches, LA, was at the center of the cotton-growing industry in the 19th century. Blessed with well-preserved historic homes, the town retains the elegance and charm it was known for during the heyday of the cotton plantations and the steamboat trade on the Red River.

The gourmet coffee craze is believed to have originated from New Orleans, LA when the city's Antoine's restaurant began serving cafe brulot in the mid-1800s. New Orleans, boasting of up to 60 coffeehouses, is currently the top importer of coffee in the US.
