The Science of Great Soil

Article Abstract:

A good garden depends on good soil that has a proper balance of texture, acidity, and nutrients. Prime soil forms loose clods when rubbed between the palms, and has a soft, fluffy texture. Sandy soil, clay soil, and silt can be brought into balance by the addition of compost. Compost is made up of organic waste such as grass clippings, fruit and vegetable scraps, newspapers, leaves, and spent flowers. Instructions for composting are included.
